Te Hāhi is a collective of local churches in partnership with the Police working together in their community. We support families impacted by family harm.
We have six teams from 8 different Kāpiti Churches that are rostered every two months. We offer pastoral support, food (if needed) and maintenance help (fixing broken windows/doors) and we have a gardening team. How it works:
Police allocate referral (low risk – no gang or drugs) to a rostered team.
Volunteers in pairs visit homes with food, and seek to meet practical needs around the
home, if appropriate. They also bring awhi (comfort), aroha, and karakia (prayer).
Police are updated that a visit has been made.
We sometimes ask the whole church to pitch in to do a garden blitz – which will have come from the Police Family Harm team or one of the support agencies we network with. These ”blitzes” will normally happen on a Saturday morning. The call to help will normally come during our notices.
If you would like to join our visitation team please get in contact with either Gradon Harvey (gradonharvey@gmail.com) or Maryke Goggins in the first instance.
Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
~ Matthew 25:34-36
